What are your thoughts on children owning cellphones? My little cousin got one when she was like 7 I think. And her older brother had to buy one, he didn't get one until he was about 18 or something.

I'm 15 and I don't own a cellphone. I don't really mind that much. I would rather work for my cellphone when I get a job than have something my parents have to pay for monthly. Hard work always pays off for something good.

I don't think kids need a cell phone until High school. If they have after school activities I'd get them a phone that doesn't have a camera or anything. I didn't get my first until I was in like 9th grade and I survived. I did sports in school and if I needed to get a hold of my mom the school allowed me to use their phone.

I'm in 10th and I don't have one but I don't mind that much. I used the school's phone if I needed a hold on my parents. Kids shouldn't have cell phones, they don't need one.

I don't think kids should have cell phones; the only time they should is if they will be unattended for long times. Like if parents will be home much later.

If kids have cell phones they should be very limited or don't have much and should only be usable to contact the parents. No body needs a cell phone till highschool.

I had one in middle school but mine was for emergency purposes only. I had a prepaid phone and was limited to the minutes that were put on my phone. If I used them all before my mom added more I was out of luck.

When it really came in handy was when I was driving and my mom insisted that I call her when I got to and from where I was going.

I didn't have my own phone until I was 17 and got my job. I bought my own phone and paid for unlimited texting but still paid by the minute. After a while I then paid for my own plan.

That was how my family did cell phones.

As for younger kids having phones I don't think young kids should. Why would kids that young need phones. I believe in them having the phone for emergency purposes with a pay by the minute plan, or with limited numbers that can be called. But I don't believe that kids should be given the newest and greatest phone possible with the most available features there are.

the school my son goes to, they don't give off full wi-fi, so i'll get my son an iPod 4G when he is 13. This way, he can't text in school, but he can still play games. But he must leave it at the room.

Not true at all Leo. The way the world is today, kids do need cell phones. The question is not if they need them, because yes, the do, the question is, what features they should get.

Do I think kids should get features right away? No.

They can work for it.
