An organisation known as Planetary Resources which is backed by Google's CEO Larry Page, Google's executive chairman and former CEO, Eric Schmidt and some other investors seems to be developing ways to harvest near-earth asteroids which is predicted to be available by 2020.

With this, we could very well have access to asteroid resources which would provide many rare metal in a much more abundant supply than, we have on Earth due to much of the heavier metals sinking to the core in the Earth's early history.

What are your thoughts on this?

I think this could be very useful, the metal will come in handy. And don't Asteroids carry water inside them? That's also a plus but how will humans get the Asteroids without damaging the Earth?

It's a very good idea. And they already do use it, it's very expensive, so we barely do now. I know we have before, i would have to ask my cousin if we still do. We would have to use spaceships/spacecrafts

They could split the water into hydrogen and oxygen which could be used as rocket fuel, I believe.

They don't bring the asteroids to the Earth.
They send the mining machines to the asteroids.

We don't take advantage of resources from resources yet.

When the harvesting is actually in place, it will be alot cheaper than blasting material up in big expensive rockets.

Once the machines capable of mining the asteroids are built and some good candidates to mine are identified then, the development costs should pay off pretty rapidly.

Additionally, the asteroids in the solar system contain more precious resources than, humanity will ever dig up from Earth.

The majority of the resources which we are mining on Earth came from asteroids bombarding it due to the actual precious resources sinking down to the Earth's core.

Investing in space is a much more realistic goal and quite nearby now than, investing in creating machines which can go through the mantle and down to the core as probes are barely surviving on the surface of Venus which is much cooler than the magma.
