1 600 dollar fine for feeding poor kids lunch on Tue Aug 21, 2012 1:04 pm

In a summer of surprises, the biggest one for Angela Prattis was being treated like a criminal for handing out free lunches to the children in her neighborhood.

Her strangely considerate behavior earned her a visit from a Chester Township official who told her to knock it off.

“He told me to shut it down,” Prattis said. “He said it was a zoning issue.”

She was told she needed to apply for a variance to serve lunch to her neighbors’ children. The application would cost her $1,000. And she was threatened with a fine of $600 a day for every day she continued to allegedly violate the township’s zoning law.

God bless the Chester Township zoning board. What would the good citizens of that municipality do without its protection from the scourge of unlicensed lunch givers?

To gauge the magnitude of this official stupidity, one needs only to stop by the Prattis’ Powell Road home on on any given weekday just before noon.

In her driveway you will find a canopy gazebo covering three folding tables and chairs. At those tables you will find children, mostly under the age of 10, eating boxed lunches.

Frightening.

What are your guys thoughts on this? Should she be fined for feeding children who are less fortunate?

I personally believe she should be fined as she is doing something good. When I was younger, my school use to feed us free lunches in the summer. We didn't always have a lot of money so it helped keep food on our tables for a few extra days as we ate lunch for free instead of going through the food we had. Not every school does this though so, I think they should thank her for her compassion.

The world has become one where you can't help anyone without the law getting in your face with either threats of arrest or fines.

It's sad but your better off not doing a damn thing.

It's absolutely ridiculous that some people would stop something that isn't bad! Some people are just too idiotic to function. =_=

This proves that the government etc don't even want to rebuild this world. They want it destroyed. Actually the government etc should be destroyed, so we can rebuild the world we love.

If this happened in Pa, Like I believe it did, then I think they should leave her alone.
The Catholic Church is giving her money everyday for these kids.

It sounds pretty disgusting and an abuse of the law for people to try to shutdown such a noble operation such as feeding poor children.

Unfortunately, laws are originally created for noble purposes but, they get distorted into such things like this.

If you're better off not doing anything that just makes you like everyone else. I would stand up to that person, I wouldn't care if I got threats just for helping someone.

But this world is really corrupt, I can't believe someone got a 600$ fine for that.... Very sad

Sounds like they're really desperate for money, if they're having to resort to getting money in this way.

An old lady handing kids out food is pretty sketchy. Next thing you know, she'll start driving a van with tinted windows and start inviting the kids in for some mayonnaise sandwiches.

This is exactly why you got banned. She's trying to help hungry kids, not every single child has the blessing of food. One less troll destorying the forums.

What's even more of a plot twist is that Azareal is the one who brought him here. You think you know people.

So Azareal isn't apart of this forum anymore? Sorry, I wish I would have caught the troll before he got out of hand.
